David Nurse, Information and Privacy Commissioner for Nova Scotia
David Nurse was appointed the Information and Privacy Commissioner for Nova Scotia on April 7, 2025, for a five-year term ending April 6, 2030. David gained significant experience in access to information and privacy issues during his 25-year legal career. Early in his career David served as a FOIPOP officer for Nova Scotia public bodies, and he also served in the Legal Services Division of the Department of Justice - Nova Scotia (2006-2011) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (2004-2006). David gained management experience in the public sector as Director of Programs with the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (2011-2013). David worked as Counsel as the Atlantic Canadian firm, McInnes Cooper (2016-2024).
David obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in 1996 from the University of King’s College, and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie Law School in 1999. David has previously held board positions with Invest Nova Scotia (Advisory Board), Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS), Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia International Tattoo. David also had the unique opportunity to travel to Ukraine in 2012 as an election observer with Mission Canada-Ukraine Elections 2012.
