Carmen Stuart, Acting Information and Privacy Commissioner for Nova Scotia

Carmen Stuart was appointed as the Acting Information and Privacy Commissioner for Nova Scotia (formerly known as "Review Officer") effective September 1, 2019.  Carmen has over 19 years of experience in the access and privacy field.  She got her start in British Columbia as an administrator of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

In 2005, she moved to the oversight side when she began working with the Nova Scotia OIPC (formerly kown as the "FOIPOP Review Office").  In her 14 years with the office, Carmen has held all of the positions, including Acting Review Officer for the OIPC from February 5, 2014 to September 1, 2014.  She has been the OIPC's Director of Investigations and Mediation and Chief Privacy Officer for the past 12 years.

This range of experience has given her a unique understanding of access to information and protection of privacy laws.
